New Delhi, AYT News | Renowned Bollywood choreographer Remo D'Souza, along with his wife Lizelle D'Souza and five others, have been booked for allegedly cheating a dance troupe out of Rs 12 crore. The case was registered at the Mira Road police station in Thane, Maharashtra, following a complaint lodged by a 26-year-old dancer from the troupe. The complaint outlines a series of fraudulent activities spanning from 2018 to July 2024, where the accused allegedly misappropriated funds intended for the dance troupe.
This financial misconduct was purportedly executed by posing as representatives of the troupe, thereby claiming a hefty prize money of Rs 11.96 crore after a victory on a television dance show. The FIR, registered under sections including 465 (forgery) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, names several others involved in the scandal. Among them are Omprakash Shankar Chouhan, the manager accused of siphoning off the troupe's earnings, including from their international performances like America's Got Talent. Additionally, Remo D'Souza's production house, Frame Production Company, and a police constable named Vinod Raut, are also implicated in this case.
This incident has cast a shadow over the dance community, especially since Remo D'Souza is not only celebrated for his choreography but also for his mentorship in various television dance reality shows. The dancers, mostly in their 20s and from humble backgrounds, had looked up to these figures for guidance and fair treatment. The legal proceedings are likely to delve into the details of how the funds were managed and distributed, questioning the ethical practices within the entertainment industry. The police have initiated a thorough investigation to unravel the full extent of the financial discrepancies and the roles played by each accused.
